    SECURITY NOTICE
    Hello everyone,
I’m posting to make you aware of a critical vulnerability found in the DIAL AllStar image. In DIAL, there is an insecure user called debian. This user can be easily hacked, leading to system compromise.
RasLink (including the Debian port) is *not* affected.
However, I’d advise you to please, please, please, KEEP…[Read more]

    Something’s gone very, very wrong.

I updated my node on Saturday. Then I logged out and couldn’t log back in again, so I re-imaged my SD card. That worked, and I was able to log into the node, which I have to set back up again.

I ran system-update again, and this time I saw some of the errors. Seems the filesystem went read only at some point…[Read more]

    • Buddy,
I’m not sure. How old is your SD card?
Did you accidentally interrupt stage one of system-update? I’m running an update from master as I write this, and it’s going fine.
i know you’re running ezstream. How is ezstream configured to start/stop? Can you stop ezstream from running on boot, and run system-update again? I wonder if ezstream is…[Read more]

I’ve setup my AllstarLink node on a Raspberry Pi, and one ‘secret sauce’ item I discovered is that even with the echolink.conf file modified to remove the beginning and end lines, the chan_echolink is not activated until you add rxchannel = echolink/el0 to the rpt.conf file — not sure what having two rxchannel lines might cause, but it seems to…[Read more]

    • Mitch,
      You shouldn’t need “rxchannel = echolink/el0”.
I’m running EchoLink just fine without that.
Can you remove or comment out that line and reboot?
After you reboot, you may have to wait up to three minutes for the EchoLink server to realize you’re registered. I’m not sure why. Bug in their API, maybe?
If it doesn’t let you connect, please send…[Read more]

    • Jeremy,
I will check tonight — funny thing is the echolink commands did not show in the asterisk cli help strings until I added the line. There was a comment around line 80 in the source code of chan_echolink.c that indicated it was needed, but I agree it seams unnecessary since the other allstarlink images did not seem to need it.

      • Well Jeremy, you are absolutely right! I took the line out and echolink is working. I have no idea what else I did differently, so why it started working is a mystery to me šŸ™‚

        • Here are some of the errors I was getting earlier:

          [May 1 19:08:03] NOTICE[8063] chan_iax2.c: Ignoring bindport on reload
          [May 1 19:12:38] WARNING[816] config.c: Unterminated comment detected beginning on line 2
[May 1 19:12:38] ERROR[816] chan_echolink.c: Cannot run echolink with no instances
          [May 1 19:12:38] NOTICE[801] dnsmgr.c: Managed…[Read more]

          • and occasionally this one:
            [May 1 21:48:44] WARNING[1334] loader.c: Module ‘chan_echolink.so’ already exists.

          • Mitch,
The EchoLink and bindport notices are expected, if you run either “service asterisk restart” or “service asterisk reload”. Asterisk is using a sqlite database to keep track of what channels and modules are loaded.
The bindport error is because when Asterisk restarts or reloads, it tries to rebind to the ports that already have listeners…[Read more]

    System Update Released!
    Hey everyone,
I wanted to let you know that I have pushed an update.
This update includes two feature requests, and a major re-write of some scripts.
    The feature requests are:
    * End command (Jim Kc0RPS and Kenny K4Kr)
End is useful for simplex nodes to be able to drop either a specific node, or all nodes at once.
    After you…[Read more]

Messed up usbradio configuration file makes crazy large log file!
    Hi everyone.
From the land of oops, I’m writing to suggest that you make a careful study of your /etc/asterisk/usbradio.conf file.
When I put comments into the file for explaining the low pass and high pass filters, I got a little rushed and forgot to put “;” (semicolons) on a few…[Read more]
